NOTICE: If you are ready to obtain your Ohio License to Carry a Concealed Weapon, the next CCW Course is on 2/2/2020 at 8:00AM. The cost for the 8 hour program is $100 if paid online by 2/2/2020 or $125 cash on the day of the course.

Course Info:

The February 2nd, 2020 Ohio CCW Course will be taught at our New Riegel, OH OPOTA Training Center. Please arrive on time and feel free to bring drinks and snacks. *Do not bring live ammunition into the class room.

Requirements:

  1. Must be 21 years of age or older.
  2. Persons with felonies are NOT eligible to receive a CCW permit in any county.

What to bring:

  1. Handgun of any caliber.
  2. 100 rounds of ammunition.
  3. Lunch/Snacks/Drinks
  4. *Handgun & ammo is available for an additional $50.

Important Info:

  1. Do not bring loaded firearm into the training academy. Keep ammunition locked in your vehicle and only bring your secured unloaded handgun into the classroom.

What you will receive:

Upon the successful completion of this 8 HR CCW Course you will received a signed Certificate of Completion from Bee-Safe. You will then take that certificate to the Sheriff’s Office and apply for your CCW Permit.

  • Find a CCW instructor – This is our database of Ohio CCW instructors and firearm classes. Search by Keyword, Distance from your home ZIP Code, County, or any combination.
  • Concealed Carry Manual – This booklet, which summarizes Ohio’s concealed handgun law, is required reading for all applicants for a concealed handgun license.
  • ATF Firearms Information – The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives provides extensive information on federal regulations.

Forbidden Carry Zones

  • Any law enforcement station or detention facility
  • Courthouse or building housing a courtroom
  • Government building (controlling agency may authorize)
  • Place of worship (unless specifically allowed)
  • Secure areas of airports
  • Institution for the care of mentally ill persons
  • Any premises owned or leased by a public or private college or university (okay if left in locked car, not applicable if college or university has authorized concealed carry)
  • School zone (okay if licensee stays in vehicle with handgun or the licensee leaves the handgun in locked car)
  • Liquor facility (okay if not already under the influence, no alcohol is consumed, and facility not posted “no guns”)
  • Wherever federal law prohibits the carrying of handguns
  • Any building or property posted as a “no gun zone”

Basic Gun Safety Rules

  • Always keep your gun pointed in a safe direction.
  • Always keep your finger off the trigger until ready to shoot.
  • Know your target and what is beyond.
  • Store gun so it is not accessible to unauthorized persons.
  • Use a quality holster that fully covers the trigger guard.
  • Keep gun handling and holster adjustment to a minimum.

Encounters With Law Enforcement (pedestrian or vehicle)

  • Promptly inform officer you have a license and handgun.
  • Keep hands in plain sight and comply with officer commands.
  • Do not touch your handgun unless instructed to do so.
  • Do not get out of your vehicle unless instructed to so.
